A fair number of The Hyve’s colleagues attended the first European edition of the Bio-IT World Conference & Expo, held on 18 and 19 October 2022 in Berlin, Germany. The Hyve was represented by Harry van Haaften, Wouter Franke, Eelke van der Horst, Melissa Fernando, Nikola Nacev, and Jessica Singh. Please continue reading to find out how The Hyve participated in the conference and what our colleagues thought of the first Bio-IT World Conference & Expo in Europe.
About Bio-IT World Conference & Expo Europe
For the last 20 years, Bio-IT World Conference & Expo has been a premier event showcasing the technologies and analytic approaches that solve problems, accelerate science, and drive the future of precision medicine. Bio-IT World unites scientists from life sciences, the pharmaceutical industry, and healthcare with informatics technology experts in biomedical research and drug discovery & development from around the world. Since 2002, the Bio-IT World Conference & Expo has been an annual event held in Boston. The Hyve has regularly attended these Bio-IT conferences. Read our reflections of the Bio-IT World 2017, Bio-IT World 2018, Bio-IT World 2019, and Bio-IT World 2020. We were excited to participate in their first-ever European edition this month.
Eelke’s presentation on Research Data Management tools
Eelke van der Horst, Semantic Modelling Expert from our Research Data Modelling (RDM) team, gave a great talk on "Open-Source Tools for Research Data Management: A Brief Overview and Evaluation." Eelke’s well-attended talk compared four research data management tools: Gen3, iRODS, COLID, and Fairspace. He evaluated the tools based on technical, community, and market criteria.
The Hyve’s Booth
The Hyve’s booth was manned by Jessica, Melissa, and Nikola. They thoroughly enjoyed talking to visitors who stopped by and answering questions about The Hyve and what we do. Over the two days of the conference, we were glad to catch up with old partners and connect with new potential customers and collaborators.
Looking back at Bio-IT World Europe
We found the keynote speeches to be inspiring. Throughout the conference, there was something for everyone: five parallel tracks, interactive discussions and networking, poster presentations, and an exhibit hall where companies showcased the latest and greatest products and services in the field.
We were impressed by the first European edition of the Bio-IT World Expo & Conference. The conversations we had connected us to people, ideas, and opportunities across Europe. We shared information about our tools, services, and innovations, about how we want to propel life science research forward, and how we want to help build a global network for precision medicine.
We look forward to attending next year's BioIT-World Expo & Conferences in Boston and Europe.
