Are you going to Bio-IT World 2019?
We would like to invite you to attend the presentation of The Hyve’s CEO Kees van Bochove. And we would also recommend some of the talks given by our customers as they were able to achieve great results with our data management support.
Also, we will be at booth #418 in the Exhibit Hall for a good conversation!
Making clinical data available within the Princess Máxima Center for Pediatric Oncology
Our long term customer, principal investigator Dr. Patrick Kemmeren of the Princess Máxima Center for Pediatric Oncology in Utrecht (The Netherlands), will be showcasing in the Cancer Informatics track how a collaboration between The Hyve and Kemmeren group makes the institute's clinical data available to researchers within the cancer centre, based on open source tools such as Glowing Bear and cBioPortal.
Date: Wednesday, April 17, 11:00
Presenter: Patrick Kemmeren, PhD, Principal Investigator, Princess Máxima Center for Pediatric Oncology
Building an Enterprise Data Lake that is FAIR at Bristol-Myers Squibb
As with many companies, Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMS) has embarked on its journey to implement an enterprise data lake as one of the means to reach data nirvana, a state where human and machine can effectively mine our disparate digital data assets and turn them into business insights that will ultimately help our patients. The FAIR data principles play an important role in this undertaking by providing a framework to make data findable, accessible, interoperable and reusable. In this presentation, BMS’ Lead R&D Data Architect, Irene Pak, will share some of the company’s lessons learned in the pursuit of FAIRness for its complex data ecosystem.

Sharing and Visualizing Cancer Genomics Datasets Using cBioPortal at BMS
The team of Senior Research Investigator Dr. Carlos Rios, from biopharmaceutical company Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMS), has been using cBioPortal for visualizing cancer genomics datasets since early 2016, supported by The Hyve. The cBioPortal server runs on Amazon AWS and is tied to the company’s Active Directory for authentication and uses Keycloak for authorization. Data can be loaded through a pipeline that takes input files from Amazon S3. For BMS, The Hyve extended cBioPortal with support for rich metadata and canvasXpress integration.

Tackling the Clinical Data Challenges When Analyzing a Million Genomes
Population genetics and genomics is an emerging topic for the application of machine learning methods in healthcare and biomedical sciences. Currently, several large genomics initiatives are all in the process of making both clinical and genomics data available from large numbers of patients to benefit biomedical research. Well known examples are Genomics England, UK Biobank, the American All of Us Project, and Europe's 1 Million Genomes Initiative. A key challenge in these initiatives is the standardization of the clinical and outcomes data in such a way that machine learning methods can be effectively trained to discover useful medical and scientific insights. In this talk, Kees van Bochove will discuss what data is available at scale and review some examples of the application of common data and evidence models such as OMOP, FHIR, GA4GH, RADAR-base and OpenTargets. He will draw on experience The Hyve has gained with some of these initiatives to harmonize their clinical, genomics, imaging and wearables data and make it FAIR.
