Recently we participated in yet another major scientific conference, ECCB 2016, 15th European Conference on Computational Biology, which is considered the main computational event in 2016. Our sponsorship was very welcome and facilitated the organization of the conference, and we got a chance to talk about the Hyve and make more people familiar with what we do.
The first talk was about The Hyve, the company policy and the business model (“The Hyve — open source communities for analyzing healthcare data: OHDSI, tranSMART and cBioPortal” by Kees van Bochove on September 5) and raised great interest among the researchers, which were approaching us afterwards sharing their excitement about what we do and expressing interest in potential collaborations.
The second talk focussed specifically on cBioPortal and highlighted the way The Hyve contributes to the open source community (“Cross-industry collaboration via Open Source Development: contributions to cBioPortal” by Pieter Lukasse on September 7). It was great to once again see that a lot of people all over the world use cBioPortal, contribute to it themselves and appreciate the contribution of The Hyve.
We also had a booth where we highlighted the main platforms supported by The Hyve (tranSMART, OHDSI, cBioPortal). Researchers were visiting us both during coffee breaks and during the talks and conference sessions. It was great to see such high interest in open source software and a great appreciation of what we do. There were comments like “It's nice to see a company that closely collaborates with researchers”, “The open source community can indeed benefit from The Hyve” and a number of “Can I come work for you?” which was very pleasant to hear. It was also great to see a large interest in open-source way of doing things, that the majority of researchers is familiar with Github and sees the future in open-source collaborative projects between the academia and companies like The Hyve.
We look forward to the next edition of ECCB in 2018, which will take place in Athens, Greece. We were already approached by the chair of ECCB 2018 suggesting sponsorship possibilities for The Hyve!
