Vacancy: Data Modeler in Data Collaborations

Who are you?

You are a skilled data modeler or data engineer with experience in semantic technologies, building and using (semantic) data models, and ontology management. You are passionate about applying new technologies like knowledge graphs to improve data management, solve data integration challenges and contribute to FAIR data in biomedical science and healthcare. You thrive in a collaborative, solution-driven environment and are eager to make an impact in research and healthcare data management.

The Hyve is a young, international IT company with a multidisciplinary team of data engineers, modelers, and software developers, embracing diversity with half of our team members coming from outside the Netherlands. We are dedicated to delivering solutions that support scientists in life sciences and healthcare R&D using open source software, open data, and open standards. Our vision is to enhance the quality and impact of biomedical research by providing high quality data solutions within the field of biomedical informatics, and we believe that open source is the way to do this.

As part of our new Data Collaborations team, you’ll work with global life science organizations, to unlock the full potential of their data and facilitate effective collaboration within complex data ecosystems.

Your responsibilities

  • Lead and execute project tasks related to data modeling and data engineering, mainly related to The Hyve’s Research Data Management services

  • Being an active member of the team and contributing to team initiatives

  • Proactive communication and collaboration with customers

  • Providing subject-matter expertise to support our sales team

Must have

  • Ability to design concepts and transform abstract thinking into a concrete model

  • Experience in data modeling; for example, through the creation of Entity Relationship (ER) or Unified Modeling Language (UML) diagrams, and building conceptual, logical, and physical relational and no-SQL data models.

  • Experience with common biomedical data models such as OMOP and vocabularies such as UMLs, ICD, or SNOMED-CT

  • Knowledge of semantic technologies (e.g., RDF/OWL)

  • Teamwork attitude based on collaboration (shared ownership of a team project outcome), cooperation (work to support of other colleagues’ goals), coordination with team members (planning and executing activities that are your responsibility)

  • Domain knowledge (clinical, biology, molecular biology, chemistry, pharma R&D data)

  • Based in or willing to move to The Netherlands

Nice to have

  • Experience working with biomedical ontologies (e.g., OBO, EFO, GO)

  • Proficiency in SPARQL

  • Experience with with building, scaling and visualizing (large) datasets/databases and knowledge graphs

  • Experience with graph databases, triple stores, or data catalogs

  • Experience with open-source software

  • Data engineering skills: data exploration, data wrangling, ETL scripting/pipeline building, and database querying
