Denise did the bachelor Biology and Medical Laboratory Research. During the bachelor she did two internships; one in the Netherlands at Merck & Co. and one abroad in South Korea at the Structural Biology and Epigenetics laboratory. She got interested in the pharmaceutical industry, where her vision to improve human health by understanding diseases was arised. Furthermore, she combined the wet lab with dry lab activities by both doing a biotechnology and bioinformatics minor. She really enjoyed Bioinformatics and decided to continue with the master Bioinformatics at Wageningen University & Research. During her thesis, she specialized in machine learning by developing a convolutional neural network approach to predict the deleteriousness of SNPs. Denise will do her internship at The Hyve to complete her master. Her project is about scalable data integration in tranSMART.
